Rosenlund Hamn
project type: Hotel extention location: Sandsøya, Norway size: 590 m² status: in application
An extension of a two-storey hotel on the island of Sandsøya, consists of extending a building completed two years earlier. The new volume is positioned above the existing structure, requiring a precise structural strategy and close collaboration with engineers to resolve load-bearing conditions and complex connections.
The process was shaped by both technical constraints and the client’s ambition to maximize capacity within a limited structural framework. Through careful coordination and detailing, a viable and robust solution was developed and successfully integrated with the existing building. The final outcome was well received by both client and stakeholders.
The architectural concept seeks to respect and relate to the surrounding built environment through its geometry and material choices, ensuring continuity with the local context rather than contrast.
Internally, the extension is conceived as a representative and open space, subtly referencing the history of the island and the client’s field of work. These references are embedded through spatial organization and material expression rather than overt symbolism, contributing to an atmosphere that is both functional and place-specific.
